The Second Day of Bookmas

Welcome to day two of our Bookmas Giveaway contest. Now it’s my turn!! For those who missed the rules, hop back over to the November 30 post and give a quick read.

And of course, before we start today’s contest, we need to announce yesterday’s winner.

Yesterday’s question was: What was the first romance Jessica ever read and who wrote it?

And the answer is Wild Oats by Pamela Morsi.

Congratulations to Emily. Please email your contact information to blog@bookends-inc.com and we’ll get your prize out immediately.

Now on to the contest . . .

You probably won’t be all that surprised to learn that my very first job was at a store called BookLand. I’d spent several years volunteering at my school library and was already a complete bookworm — some things never change. We sold books and magazines there, along with lots and lots and lots of lottery tickets. Some days were busier than others, and I often found myself with some extra time between customers to read.

I usually gravitated toward romantic suspense and gothics, but while stocking the shelves and getting to know the store’s inventory, I became intrigued with a mystery series that I’d also watched on the small screen. It wasn’t my usual fare, but I was hooked.

Can you name the series and the author?

The winner will receive three novels.

For clues, check out these authors...

Heh, I work at a used bookstore where we also sell lots and lots of lottery tickets (and cigarettes). I've even had people come in to buy a bottle of pop or bus tickets and then look around and comment "Wow, I didn't know you sold books too." Really? It says 'Bookstore' right in the name of the shop! Sometimes I wonder what the breakdown is between how much we make on books vs., everything else, but I'm afraid to ask.

The Perry Mason series of books by Erle Stanley Gardner

An addendum to my guess... Gardner typically wrote his novels under pseudonyms like A.A. Fair, Kyle Corning, Charles M. Green, Carleton Kendrake, Charles J. Kenny, Les Tillray, and Robert Parr.

I seem to be too late for my guess, but that was fun anyway. Maybe I'll luck out with one of the future clues.

Man, you guys are too good at this. And here I thought this was a tough one!

We'll definitely have to step up our game!

You're right Bonnie. It's Perry Mason. And speaking of... along with the books, and the character and Raymond Burr, I LOVED the show's theme song. :)

Kim - I loved the theme song too. In fact when I was a kid I had the biggest crush on Perry Mason. I started reading the books because I enjoyed the show so much. Of course by the time I started watching it - it had been in re-runs for years. I love the old black and white ones best.
