BookEnds Status

Happy Friday! I can't believe it's March 12 only and already. I've been reporting about how far behind I've been on queries, but haven't really given you a full idea as to why. It's because I've been busy, busy, busy doing those things an agent is supposed to be doing.

In the first week of March alone (that's through March 5) BookEnds (collectively) sold 15 books. Some were multiple book deals of course, but that doesn't diminish our excitement. This week we added five more to that list. Not bad. Not bad at all.

In addition to selling books I've read and edited one full manuscript for a client, two proposals for another, one piece of fiction for yet another client and one nonfiction proposal for another. On top of all that I have actually read through one full submission and at least 5-6 proposals.

I've had lengthy conversations with three clients about career goals and I have fewer then 400 queries left to answer (that's down 100 from last week).

Certainly every week isn't this productive, but I'm going to take each day at a time and revel in my accomplishments for the last two weeks.

(Now all those who say this is also proof that the awesome BookEnds folks are really aliens who need no sleep, raise YOUR hands. Yeah. Me too :-)

Congrats on bringing the month in like a lion!

Congratulations!! Looking forward to adding those titles to my towering TBR list. (And I also want to know where to get your coffee or how I can be abducted and changed by your mother ship.)

WTG, Jessica!

And I thought I was doing good with my pitiful 11,000 word writing spree this week!

Jessica and Kim, that's great news--for us writers too! Sounds like things are looking up and publishers are buying again--good for you! Now maybe you can take a break from the blog and get even MORE done...if that's possible. LOL

Wow! That is definitely something to celebrate... well done! I think that is encouraging for all to read that books are being picked up by publishers; thanks for all you do.

I was just wondering if all the sales were new sales or current clients getting their contracts renewed.

Congratulations on your incredibly productive month. Those are some celebration-worthy accomplishments, definitely.

Good luck with that query pile. I can only imagine how overwhelming that would be.

And revel you should--I think it's important to take a break at the end of each week and go over what you've accomplished. Sometimes I feel as if I've done nothing but spin my wheels, and then I realize that no, I really have gotten a lot done!

(Donna, big congrats on the 11,000 word writing spree--doesn't that just feel GOOD? :-) )

And to Jessica: thank you so much--one of those long conversations Jessica mentioned was with me, and once again my agent has me focused on the road ahead and what needs to get done. I'm convinced that working with a slew of authors has to be akin to herding cats!

It's definitely been a busy couple of weeks. A very good kind of busy, though!

I'm still woefully behind on reading partials and don't plan on accepting queries again anytime soon. Using this rainy day to try and catch up a bit!

That is incredible. I too have had a productive week.

I managed to wrangle the kids well enough to make myself a sandwich, every day.

*it brings a tear to my eye*
