Things Learned from Twitter

As many of you know by now I get up early and when I do I often check Twitter to see what's going on the world, especially the publishing world. For those of you who aren't up quite as early or haven't yet joined Twitter, let me share some of what I learned today...

I recently read a review of ROOM and really wanted to read it, but am nervous. It looks so dark that I'm not sure I want to put myself through it. That being said @JasonPinter has convinced me with this Tweet Ok, ok, you've all convinced me. I'm going to have to read ROOM by Emma Donoghue. Isn't that what you wanted???

Just what I've been looking for from @PublishersWkly: The Daily Beast has a list of 10 Smart YA Books, for those who've finished #HungerGames and are looking for more http://bit.ly/9DpvKU

I have added this to my wish list and now I have to decide whether I wait patiently for my wish to be granted or grant it myself. From @eatingfreely Got my copy of the "Gluten-Free Girl and The Chef" cookbook today! Gorgeous. Beautiful to read, beautiful to look... http://fb.me/IedBOr80

Depressing, but not surprising news from @Pimpmynovel (great blog by the way) Fun fact: each member of the cast of Jersey Shore currently makes more money per episode than most publishing assistants do in a year.

And with that I wish you all a glorious weekend. My plans? To read manuscripts by Kate Douglas, Grace Carroll, and Angie Fox. Uff, I better get moving.

Phew! So glad I read this before class. I'm off to the registrar's office RIGHT NOW to switch my major from English to Spray Tan.

Elizabeth: If the spray tan doesn't do the trick, try having six or eight babies, making a spectacle of yourself on Dancing With The Stars and you too can be the super mom of the year ... or is that the woman with the 19 kids.

I am new to tweeting on twitter, I am happily learning the "blog" business, I refuse to plaster my face on Facebook and my head is spinning with the constant news that I'll never make a buck as a writer, if I had one, I should not quit my day job, it's easier to get struck by lightening than to land an agent and that's only if you are writing the "soup" of the day.

I give all my favorite sites one hour before I begin my "work" day. As a person who loves to start on a happy note each day ... that one hour can be a mine field. *Note: If the object that blows up when you step on it isn't spelled like what is rightfully mine, sorry, I am spelling deficient.

Ah, have a great weekend anyway :)

I've been getting into twitter a lot more lately. I have to say, it's taken me a very long time to figure out how to use it best. Once I figured out the right community to follow (book lovers and writers), I've found it to be pretty awesome. See you on there! @melissasarno :-)
By the way, ROOM is an amazing read. While the topic itself is dark, the 5 y/o perspective changes the entire mood and feel of the book. I aboslutely loved it.

I've been on the fence about ROOM as well. I can handle the subject matter, but I don't know how I feel about trying to get into the mindset of a 5 year old boy.

And WOW that news about the cast of the Jersey Shore is really depressing. So many people out there are unemployed and looking for jobs. Meanwhile these kids are getting paid just to *show up* at places. Le sigh.

Love Gluten-Free Girl! It's so hard to find tasty recipes that aren't either really expensive or involved to make.

If you get it, do let us know how you liked it.

I am really, REALLY trying with Twitter, but it's not a natural thing for me. Mainly, I guess, because I really don't give a rat's ass what most people are doing throughout the day, not when I've got a deadline looming. I do like Facebook, though. At least there I get pictures!

And thank you, Jessica, for reading my manuscript!
