The Reading Blues

Last month I was on a roll (it helped that I had a long plane flight to and from California). I read a bunch of books that had nothing to do with work (I hate saying "for pleasure" because it implies what I read as part of the job is not pleasurable) and I couldn't stop. This month though has been a book drought.

I have three amazing (or so I've been told) books sitting on my table waiting for me to read them. They are by authors I love and they are books I've been dying to get my hands on. A shout out to the editors who have been supplying them to me. But for whatever reason I just can't get myself to pick them up and get started.

Have you ever had that happen? Maybe you enjoyed the last book so much that you fear the next won't live up? Sometimes for me I think it's that I don't have the dedicated time to just sit and read, and read and read. I know that when I start reading I'll only get about a half hour again before I'll have 40 other things to do and what I want to do is read. And read. And read.

This week I'm going to make a concerted effort to shake the reading blues off, pick up a book, and sit down to read.

I prefer the term, "reading for leisure".

As for not getting to books you want to read...

Have you ever had a craving and only cake will assuage it? Pie won't work, a chocolate bar won't work, ice cream won't work. Only cake will do.

Sometimes I feel like that. Sometimes I am in the mood for a particular kind of book. Sure, some excellent pie may be sitting in my TBR pile, but if I'm only craving cake, I fear that I won't give the devotion that a good pie deserves.

Best to wait until I'm in the mood for a good pie.

Pi Day is coming up in a few weeks. Wonder what kind of pie I should make.
